The Thousand Years

CHAPTER 20:1-15
THE THOUSAND YEARS

Review Last Lesson: Last lesson in Chapter 19 of Revelation, we were introduced to the wife of the lamb. This lesson, we see exactly what will take place when this world age is over. Once the bride has made herself ready, the following will happen:

The Thousand Years

1 And I saw an angel coming down out of Heaven, having the key of the abyss, and a great chain on his hand. 2 And he laid hold of the dragon, the old serpent who is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years, 3 and threw him into the abyss, and shut him up, and sealed over him, that he should not still lead astray the nations, until the thousand years are fulfilled.

And after these things, he must be set loose a little time. 4 And I saw thrones, and they sat on them. And judgment was given to them, and the souls of the ones having been beheaded because of the witness of Jesus, and because of the Word of God, and who had not worshiped the beast nor its image, and had not received the mark on their forehead and on their hand. And they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.

5 But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were ended. This is the first resurrection. 6 Blessed and holy is the one having part in the first resurrection. The second death has no authority over these, but they will be priests of God and of Christ, and will reign with Him a thousand years.

7 And whenever the thousand years are ended, Satan will be set loose out of his prison, 8 and he will go to mislead the nations in the four corners of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them in war, whose number is as the sand of the sea. 9 And they went up over the breadth of the land and encircled the camp of the saints, and the beloved city. And fire from God came down out of Heaven and burned them down. 10 And the Devil leading them astray was thrown into the Lake of Fire and Brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet were . And they were tormented day and night forever and ever.

The Judgment at the Great White Throne

11 And I saw a great white throne, and the One sitting on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled; and a place was not found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the small and the great, standing before God. And books were opened. And another Book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged out of the things written in the books, according to their works.

13 And the sea gave up the dead in it. And death and Hades gave up the dead in them. And they were each judged according to their works. 14 And death and Hades were thrown into the Lake of Fire. This is the second death. 15 And if anyone was not found having been written in the Book of Life, he was thrown into the Lake of Fire.

To understand why Satan must perish, we must take a look at his crime against God and against all who live. In Ezekiel, God is speaking to Satan as the King of Tyrus:

EZEKIEL 28:2-19

Because your heart is lifted up, and you have said, I am a god; I sit in the seat of gods, in the heart of the seas—yet you are a man, and not God, though you have your heart as the heart of gods— Behold you are wiser than Daniel; every one of the secret things are not hidden to you. With your wisdom and your understanding you have made riches for yourself, and have worked gold and silver into your treasuries. By your great wisdom, by your trade you have multiplied your riches and your heart is lifted up because of your riches.

So the Lord God says this: Because you have given your heart as the heart of gods, therefore, behold, I will cause come on you awesome strangers of the nations. And they shall draw their swords against the beauty of your wisdom, and will profane your splendor. They shall cause you to go down to the Pit, and you shall die the deaths of the slain in the heart of the seas. Will you say, I am of the gods, before him who strikes you? But you are a man, and not God, in the hands of him who pierces you. You shall die the deaths of the uncircumcised, by the hand of strangers. For I have spoken, says the Lord God.

And the word of God was to me, saying, Son of man, lift up a lament over the king of Tyre, and say to him, So says the Lord God: you seal up the full measure, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You have been in Eden the Garden of God; every precious stone was your covering, the ruby, the topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, and the sapphire, the turquoise, and the emerald and gold. The workmanship of your tabrets and of your pipes in you—in the day you were created, they were prepared. You were the anointed cherub that covers, and I had put you in the holy height of God, where you were. You walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. You were perfect in your ways from the day you were created until iniquity was found in you.

By the multitude of your trade they filled your midst with violence, and you sinned. So I cast you profaned from the height of God and destroyed you O covering cherub, from among the stones of fire. Your heart was lifted up because of your beauty; you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. I have cast you to the ground. I will put you before kings that they may see you.

By the host of your iniquities, by the iniquity of your trade, you have profaned your holy places; thus I brought a fire from your midst; it shall devour you, and I will give you for ashes on the earth in the sight of all who see you. All who know you among the peoples shall be appalled at you; you shall be terrors, and you will not be forever.

Let’s pray that we do not receive such condemnation from God. We must pray for forgiveness from our sins and pray for the Lord to be patient with us as we try to walk in his footsteps….AMEN!
